Hike and Bike for Community Conservation 

LAIKIPIA, KENYA
August 8-20, 2024

Come take part in a 13-day/12-night, multi-sport adventure dedicated to community conservation. On this ‘safari’, you will ride a mountain bike through conservancies devoted to conserving Kenya’s wildlife. Enjoy custom fly camps. Walk through the Kenyan bush. Engage with local communities. Climb Kenya’s tallest mountain. Learn about conservation in the Laikipia landscape.

 

This is an adventure of a lifetime. It is an exclusive, personalized trip.

Your participation will directly contribute to the #MazingiraConservationFund, a program dedicated to the future of community-based wildlife conservation in Laikipia, Kenya.

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi
August 8th, 2024

Karibu Kenya!! Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), you will be met by your guide and driven to your first hotel in Nairobi, on the outskirts of Nairobi National Park.

After your long journey, this accommodation is the most practical place to unwind and get a great night’s rest before your adventure begins. Enjoy dinner on the hotel grounds and fall asleep to the views of Nairobi National Park.

Day 2: Travel & Mtn Bike Ride 
August 9th, 2024

Wake to Kenya’s fine coffee at breakfast and prepare for your journey North. The 4 hour journey will take you through varying landscapes including the capital city of Nairobi and up to Nanyuki. 

This afternoon hop on your mountain bike for your first spin. You will become acquainted with the bike and beautiful scenery by riding through El Karama Conservancy, a conservancy dedicated to combining sustainable conservation, productive rangeland management, community cooperation, responsible tourism, and much more.

Day 3: Mtn Bike Ride
August 10th, 2024

Your first full day of biking will take you from El Karama Conservancy into Enasoit Conservancy and finally into Lolldaiga Conservancy. Ride through the open savannah and by yellow fever groves and catch a glimpse of the endangered Grevy zebra.


Tonight enjoy camping in tents in the middle of Laikipia’s wilderness. We will camp under the African sky and gather around the fire to hear tales of the bush.

Adventure for Rhinos is raising funds for the #MazingiraConservationFundThis grant-making fund has raised more than $80. The fund supports small grants for Human Wildlife Conflict prevention, wildlife corridor protection, and incentives for wildlife conservation ALL AIMED at rural communities. The grant fund is administered by the Laikipia Forum, a 30-year-old conservation membership organization working in the Laikipia landscape.

Julian Wright

 

African Ascents Company Director, Lead Guide/ Field Expert, Professional Mountaineer

 

Julian Wright is a highly experienced rock climber and mountaineer originally from Kenya.
He recently climbed the Diamond Colouir, a striking line of equatorial ice that might be one of the most exotic climbs in the world. It was last climbed in 2005 and due to climate change the line of ice hasn’t to been present until 2018. Check out his climb here

Tara Hetz

A world nomad and adventure seeker, cycling guide and Wilderness Medicine Instructor

 

Raised in the middle of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, Tara's unique childhood was spent living amongst East Africa’s wildlife. Her favorite animal is the gerenuk and she loves dancing to West African Music.
